What's a monoprint ?

It's a one-off print made by hand. First a blank printing plate is inked, then ink is selectively removed to create the image. The plate is then run (or "pulled") through an etching press in contact with damp paper. The ink is squeezed from the plate onto the paper under thousands of pounds of pressure creating the print. The shape of the printing plate is embossed into the paper, a feature of all prints made on an etching press. This process results in distinct textural qualities and depth not found in other printing methods.
